The Crosstab model provided an updated forecast of the election result. The model currently forecasts a major vote share of 41.0% for Clinton, and 59.0% for Trump in South Dakota. In comparison, on October 25 Trump was predicted to garner 58.6% of the vote.
Putting the results in context
As a general rule, however, one should not have too much faith in the results of single models, since they can incorporate large errors. Rather, one should examine how a model's results compare to benchmark forecasts.
The Crosstab model compared with PollyVote's prediction
The latest PollyVote predicts Trump to gain 58.7% of the two-party vote in South Dakota. PollyVote currently predicts Trump to gain 0.3 percentage points less compared to the results of the Crosstab model.
