WISH-TVWISH-TV published the results of a new poll. In this poll, respondents from Indiana were asked for whom they will vote: Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton or Republican candidate Donald Trump.
WISH-TVWISH-TV poll results
Of those who answered the question, 37.0% said that they will vote for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, while 43.0% said that they would give their vote to billionaire Donald Trump.
The poll was conducted from October 10 to October 16. A total of 544 likely voters responded. If one takes into account the poll's margin of error of +/-4.8 percentage points, the results reflect a statistical tie.
Putting the results in context
Individual polls should be regarded with caution, as they may incorporate large errors. At least, one should check how a poll's results compare to benchmark forecasts.
In order to make the results comparable to benchmark forecasts, you can convert them into two-party vote shares. This procedure yields figures of 46.3% for Clinton and 53.8% for Trump.
Results in comparison to other polls
Trump is currently at 53.1% of the major two-party vote in an average of recent polls in Indiana. In comparison to his numbers in the WISH-TVWISH-TV poll Trump's poll average is 0.7 percentage points lower. This margin is within the poll's margin of error, which means that the poll is not an outlier.
Comparison to the combined PollyVote
The most recent PollyVote foresees Trump to gain 55.1% of the two-party vote in Indiana. That is, Polly's prediction is 1.3 points above his polling numbers. The PollyVote forecast is thus in line with the poll's error margin.
