PPP (D) published the results of a new poll. In this poll, respondents from West Virginia were asked for whom they will vote: Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.
PPP (D) poll results
Of those who responded, 30.0% said that they are going to vote for former New York Senator Hillary Clinton, while 57.0% revealed that they would give their vote to businessman Donald Trump.
The poll was carried out from April 29 to May 1 among 1201 likely voters. Considering the poll's margin of error of +/-2.8 percentage points, the spread between both candidates is statistically significant.
Putting the results in context
Single polls may contain large biases, and should be treated with caution. Rather, one should examine how a poll's results compare to benchmark forecasts.
For the following analysis, we convert Trump's and Clinton's raw poll numbers into two-party vote shares. The respective figures are 34.5% for Clinton and 65.5% for Trump.
Results compared to the combined PollyVote prediction
The latest PollyVote foresees Trump to gain 61.9% of the two-party vote in West Virginia. That is, Polly's forecast is 3.6 points below his polling numbers. The PollyVote forecast is thus outside the poll's margin of error.
