FOX 5 Atlanta published the results of a new poll. In this poll, respondents from Georgia were asked for whom they will vote: Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.
FOX 5 Atlanta poll results
Of those who responded, 42.0% said that they intend to vote for former New York Senator Hillary Clinton, whereas 46.0% declared that they would give their vote to businessman Donald Trump.
The poll was conducted from September 14 to September 14. A total of 568 likely voters responded. The margin of error is +/-4.1 points, which means that the poll results for Trump and Clinton do not differ significantly.
Putting the results in context
Individual polls may contain large biases, and should be treated with caution. Instead of trusting the results from single polls, forecasting research recommends to use combined polls or, even better, the combined PollyVote forecast that incorporates different methods and data.
In order to make the results comparable to forecasts from other methods, one can convert them into shares of the two-party vote. The corresponding figures are 47.7% for Clinton and 52.3% for Trump. In the latest FOX 5 Atlanta poll on August 17 Clinton obtained 50.0%, while Trump obtained only 50.0%.
Comparison to other polls
An average of recent polls in Georgia has Trump at 52.5% of the two-party vote. This value is 0.2 percentage points higher than his corresponding numbers in the FOX 5 Atlanta poll. This margin is within the poll's error margin, which suggests that the poll is not an outlier.
Results compared to the combined PollyVote prediction
The most recent PollyVote expects Trump to gain 52.5% of the two-party vote in Georgia. This means that the PollyVote forecast is 0.2 points above his polling numbers. The PollyVote forecast is thus in line with the poll's error margin.
