NBC-WSJ-Marist published the results of a new poll. In this poll, interviewees from Illinois were asked for whom they will vote: Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton.
NBC-WSJ-Marist poll results
According to the results, 57.0% of interviewees plan to vote for former New York Senator Hillary Clinton, whereas 32.0% plan to vote for real estate developer Donald Trump.
The poll was conducted from March 4 to March 10. A total of 1968 registered voters responded.
Putting the results in context
As a general rule, however, don't have too much faith in the results of single polls, as they can incorporate large errors. At least, one should check how a poll's results compare to benchmark forecasts.
In order to make the results comparable to forecasts from other methods, we translate them into shares of the two-party vote. This procedure results in figures of 64.0% for Clinton and 36.0% for Trump.
Results compared to the combined PollyVote forecast
The most recent PollyVote predicts Clinton to gain 58.3% of the two-party vote in Illinois. Hence, the combined PollyVote is 5.7 points below her polling numbers.
