Utah: Trump holds substantial lead in recent PPP (D) poll
PPP (D) published the results of a new poll. In this poll, participants from Utah were asked for whom they will vote: Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton.
PPP (D) poll results
Of those who answered the question, 33.0% said that they plan to vote for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whereas 53.0% revealed that they would give their vote to billionaire Donald Trump.
The poll was conducted from August 14 to August 19. A total of 1018 likely voters responded. If one takes into account the poll's margin of error of +/-3.1 percentage points, the spread in voter support is statistically significant.
Putting the results in context
Single polls often include substantial biases, which is why they should be treated with caution. Instead of relying on results from single polls, the best practice is to consult combined polls or, even better, the combined PollyVote forecast that incorporates forecasts from different methods, each of which incorporates different data.
For the following comparison, we translate the candidates' raw poll numbers into two-party vote shares. This yields figures of 38.4% for Clinton and 61.6% for Trump.
Results compared to the combined PollyVote forecast
The most recent PollyVote anticipates Trump to gain 60.9% of the two-party vote in Utah. Hence, the PollyVote is 0.7 points below his polling numbers. The PollyVote forecast is thus within the poll's margin of error.
